Archaeology & Development Foundation (ADF)
The Archaeology and Development Foundation (ADF) is a British not-for-profit charity (n.1122750) and a registered international NGO in Cambodia. ADF scope is unique and exclusively focusing on the Phnom Kulen National Park (PKNP), 40 Km north-east of Angkor World Heritage site. ADF was set up in 2008 to investigate one of the earliest capitals of the Angkor region and its later settlements. ADF’s main objective is to ensure that its archaeological preservation program is fully integrated with the conservation of the Phnom Kulen natural environmental and with the improvement of livelihood for the local population, distributed over 10 villages (approx. 4,900 inhabitants).
ADF’s activities has a panel of three integrated development components: 1) diversify the villagers’ economic activities through responsible tourism, sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices and handicrafts promotion; 2) protect the parc’s biodiversity by zoning, demarcation, reforestation, protection and environmental awareness activities; 3) improve education and health through hygiene, sanitation and infrastructures in remote schools and villages.

You will be employed by ADF and you will work in Siem Reap and in Phnom Kulen National Park under ADF’s operational management, mostly to reinforce an ongoing ecotourism project. Other archaeological duties related to research and heritage conservation should also be expected. You will spend several days per week in Phnom Kulen and others in ADF office.
Your objective will be to improve the archaeological knowledge of the CBTC members/local guides and APSARA National Authority guards about the Phnom Kulen archaeological main sites, in particular the ones visited by the trails offered by the CBTCs. For this project, the overall objective is to enhance their knowledge and improve the services of the Anlong Thom CBTC. More generally, you will reinforce ADF archaeological component by participating to studies and conservation initiatives.
Environmentally friendly practices are central to this project since it is held in a national park and the improvement of the protection of the environment is a key expected outcome.

Duties:
Training and archaeological awareness to the CBTCs members and other partners:
- Conceive and organize regular trainings at the Anlong Thom CBTC and on each site for the CBTC members/local guides and APSARA National Authority guards about the Phnom Kulen archaeological main sites, in particular the ones visited by the trails offered by the CBTCs.
- Organize tests to evaluate the knowledge of the Anlong Thom CBTC members before and after the trainings.
- Select, organize and print the appropriate archaeological documentation for the local guides, to be presented at each visited site during treks by the clients of the Anlong Thom CBTC. A digital support could also be developed.
- Conceive and organize meetings to disseminate the knowledge of the Phnom Kulen ancient city’s urban network and other sites revealed by the Lidar technology to the Anlong Thom CBTC/CPA members, villagers, teachers, students and local authorities.
- Develop trainings with the APSARA National Authority, local authorities, school teachers, and other partners (Heritage Watch…) about heritage education for the Phnom Kulen villagers/authorities/teachers and students.
- Work closely with the authorities such as village chiefs, commune chief and council, district office, the APSARA National Authority for all necessary authorizations.
- Assist ADF’s archaeologist and director in all archaeological and heritage conservation tasks in Phnom Kulen previous and ongoing research, on the field and at the office
- Reinforce ADF GIS component
- Liaison between ADF and partner teams with reporting tools and regular meetings
- Coordinate any supplementary field reports requested
Requirements
Experience:
- Bachelor level (preferably Masters) in Khmer archaeology
- Five years’ experience in the archaeology sector: excavation, site management, etc.
- Experience in heritage awareness
- Relevant project management experience is a strong avantage
- Expert knowledge in Khmer archaeology, particularly in rural areas, a knowledge of Phnom Kulen archaeological sites is a plus
- Proficient in english; French is a plus
- Demonstrated expertise in training, preferably in archaeology sector,
- Computer literate in office software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe suite, QGIS/ArcGIS
- Budget Management: Experience in budgeting, expense forecasting, and cost control
- Strong desire to help underprivileged Cambodians
- Passionate about archaeology, heritage conservation, environmental conservation and sustainable tourism.

- Fixed duration contract of 1 year. The contract could be renewed if funded
- Schedule: from Monday to Friday – Between 8am and 5pm excluding lunch break
